Heartseed is a non-profit Mozambican association. We created the first reception and educational development center with vulnerable children on the Island of Mozambique, which advocates humanized education, personal empowerment, balanced nutrition, reduced environmental impact and local development.
With an alternative education system, we promote educational activities and the learning of trades, with the aim of developing values, skills and competences so that they become empowered, confident and active young people in the local community.
Why the children?
Children on the Island make up the majority of the population, as in the rest of Mozambique, they represent about half of the population. Their diverse contexts of vulnerability result in high rates of school dropout and learning difficulties in formal education. But we want to change this scenario. We believe that education is essential for them to have a better future, overcoming unstructured family contexts and without resources.
WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR EVERY DAY?

Social and personal development of each child and young person;

Enhance intellectual and vocational skills through activities and tools for future insertion in the job market, improving the possibilities of self-sustainability of this generation and preserving the local culture;

Development of skills to make them more aware of environmental problems and solutions;

Ensure good food with local products;

Development of inclusion strategies in the community through professional (vocational) training in various workshops;

Awareness of risk behaviors and development of positive psychology;

Community empowerment with the participation of local traders, artisans and artists.
